August September, have been my two busiest months for denture repairs for years, I can give no simple answer why.
So I have been reflecting on the comments made to me,
it was only a nut in the muesli
the Sunday pork crackling
that hard crusty roll from so-and-so
the choccy bar from the fridge was too hard,
the ice lollies that I made and of course don't forget good old toast.
I am sure there are many many more. For over five decades now, one becomes an observer of the broke denture.
Why do they break? I could be cynical and say, natural wearing tear, they are after all, man- made artificial prosthesis. No substitute for the real thing, meaning ones own natural teeth, but many of you are wearers of such products made by myself or other professionals.
My pet hate, is overuse of denture fixative, although it is sometimes very useful short-term solution to a dental problem. Not a long term solution for ill fitting dentures. A very loose denture will cause damage to your real teeth and gums and can cause teeth to be loosened . So come and see me before this happens dentures need to be replaced on a regular basis if necessary.
My five basic tips to remember are opposite.
But the most important thing of all is your free yearly inspection at my surgery in Diss.

Your mouth is, over time, are totally changing environment and when things occur they need to be monitored carefully. The one thing that always gives me personally anxiety is the mouth ulcer or sore spot, it never ceases to amaze me what Joe public will put up with. If you had an ulcer on your leg, or any other part of your body, you would not ignore it, you would seek, professional advice. Statistically only a small proportion will be sinister. My last comment, is not to frighten you, but to make you aware, oral cancer yes, a word that for any of us, causes fear and anxiety, me too. So do not ignore, always seek advice before it becomes a catastrophic catastrophe, I speak from experience.
